PLCC Emulator Plugs
PLCC plug interfaces for connecting emulator systems to PLCC production sockets.
Technical Overview
PLCC emulator plugs are used in printed circuit board adapters that mate with production PLCC sockets to provide a mechanically stable electrical connection.
Configurations are available in surface-mount (large outline) and thru-hole styles, with common pin counts including 20, 28, 32, 44, 52, 68, and 84 pins.
Mechanical Configuration
PLCC emulator plugs are available in two mechanical styles: large-outline surface-mount (SMT) and thru-hole (TH). Common pin counts include 20, 28, 32, 44, 52, 68, and 84 pins.
Large-outline SMT plug part numbers are APW-9322 through APW-9328. Thru-hole plug part numbers are APW-9300 through APW-9306. Dimensional definitions (A, B, C, D) and recommended large-outline pad layouts are specified in the datasheet tables.
Pin length is defined by the part-number suffix. For large-outline SMT plugs, suffix options include -ZC138, -ZC158, -ZC160, or no suffix. For thru-hole plugs, suffix options include -ZC168, -ZC185, -ZC187, -ZC189, or no suffix.
Insulator material is transitioning from Questra (legacy) to Stanyl for RoHS-compliant reflow temperatures. Insulator color changes from black (Questra) to natural (Stanyl).
Routing Configurations
PLCC emulator plugs provide the mechanical interface used to connect a printed circuit board adapter to a PLCC production socket.
Electrical routing is determined by the PCB adapter design in which the PLCC plug is installed. The plug itself does not define signal routing.
In most adapter implementations, PLCC plug contacts are routed directly to corresponding interface connections on the adapter PCB unless a specific circuit configuration requires otherwise.
